into the night

This one took on some insane form and I really don't know how it happened. I wrote the first stanza and then I looked down and all of a sudden it was followed by three haikus, but it all made sense. Then I just felt like making it a fourteen line poem.

The moon tolls the evening bell
A foggy lullaby floating on
Ghosts out on the roads wander
The dashboard glows green

i see the nighttime
filled with the spirits of old
the moon strikes the hour

lullaby of dark
crescendo of the starlight
mourn the death of day

fog rolls through back doors
memories return to pass
you forget nothing

leave this world where the spirits scream

burning

the fire doesn't burn to die
while we all die to burn
headstrong living in the city
crying because the money's gone
hometown thoughts linger and pass
street corners take their place
and the money's all gone
stars shone brightly lit
walked with their heads on high
their fire went and died

paternal blues

my dad doesn't understand the blues
that's because he's not living it
the subtle nuances of pain and distress
every not a scream, shudder, or sigh
silent fingers glide over fretted ash
nickel-plated steel does the talking
a story told to all who'll listen
but my dad still doesn't understand the blues
the weary tales of a disheartened traveler
grunted through the black heart's grasp
the soul does more than showing
shattered cries of a broken man
to a generation stuck in a rut
you live the life of a life once lived
and my dad doesn't understand the blues
