...and the tide rolls in

And your mind comes in with the tide
Leaving you stranded, watching
From the boat you gaze with wide eyes
Wandering along the horizon, searching
Something so close, never to be reached

And still you struggle on towards it
The whipping boy no longer whipped
The mule laid to rest after a lifetime
Back breaking work under the cruel stare
Of a master, of the all-knowing witness

And you keep a watchful eye fixed
Ever vigilant, quietly waiting on life
Holding out for the dawn of the next
Hoping for the return to the sea
A gentle tide bringing the moon down
Shrinking the horizon

catherine and frederick

"There is nobody like us"
And the words cut deep
As the rain fell around
Filling me
Filling the wound

Somewhere the canon roar
Above the cries of men

"You're a grand girl"
And somewhere in her eyes
The stars are burning
For me
For us

We whisper together
In a place only we can find

togetherness

We watch the dance of death
Through an open window
A shattered voice calls out
Above the whine of a siren
My heart is a machine gun
Shooting over your head
Piercing the night sky
The stars come out like tear drops
From the oceans of your eyes
